Abstract Introduction: Pregnancy risk perception is a complex process influenced by a variety of factors. Pregnancy risk causes physical, psychological, and socioeconomic complications to pregnant women as it needs for close monitoring throughout pregnancy and the immediate postpartum which may require hospitalization. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess primigravida perception to pregnancy risk. Materials and method: The study was carried out at antenatal clinic of Obstetric and Gynecological specialty center at Mansoura University Hospital according to inclusion criteria during the period from October 2020 to March 2021. The study subject included purposive sample of 250 primigravida women selected according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through Structured Interviewing Schedule to assess personal and general characteristics of primigravida women and pregnancy risk perception scale. Results: The results of the present study highlighted that There was statistically relation between total risk perception level and age, educational level, occupation, marriage duration& husband educational level among studied group. Most common precipitating factors affecting pregnancy risk perception were hypertension, hemoglobin less than 10, violence followed by corona virus, working hazards, diabetes and smoking. There was association between total perception level and seeking for medical advice and care. There was a highly statistically significant relation between pregnancy total risk perception level and total knowledge level among studied primigravida women (p<0.001). Recommendations: Stress on increasing awareness about pregnancy risk through antenatal care which include information regarding pregnancy risks and its effect on mother and fetus should be provided to primigravida women. |
