Abstract

Growth and development are the normal biological process for all living individual. They are started by conception and end at maturation. They are characteristics for children and any obstacle in this process will leads to aberration of growth and development, so early diagnosis and management for any deviation from the normal development is important.
The aim of this work is to carry out translation, modification and adaptation of the Developmental Profile 3 and its application on children from birth through age 12 years and 11 months.
This study was firstly applied on 10 subjects as a pilot study, then it was carried on 100 normal children that attending with their families in the Phoniatrics Unit, in the outpatient clinic of Alexandria Main University hospital. After translation, modification and adaptation process, it was applied on the children and comparing it with gold standard tools used in this study (Denever II or Stanford binet and Vineland Social Maturity Scale).
The results show no statistically significant difference in age and sex and this study shows strong reliability and validity of Developmental Profile 3 that measuring children’s development in five essential functional areas.
Also this study shows that DP-3 was shorter in length and administration time. Additionally, it can discriminate effectively not only between developmentally delayed and typically developing children, but also between children with different levels of clinical impairment.
Recommendations to do further research using the DP-3 with different populations, in different contexts, and for different purposes will contribute well to the research base
