Abstract

”Back ground: Bronchial asthma is one of the medical problems that substantially reduce the quality of life of patients; asthma places a large burden on affected patients and their families. Self-efficacy has important theoretical and practical applications for health promotion and disease prevention among adults. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of an educational program on self efficacy for patients with bronchial asthma. Research design A Quazi experimental design was used. The sample consisted of 85 patients with bronchial asthma in the chest department at Mansoura University Hospital. Three tools were used to collect data, 1) A questionnaire interview sheet to assess patient condition, 2) An assessment sheet for knowledge, practice, and attitude of patient about bronchial asthma, 3) The Asthma Self-Efficacy Scale. The results of the present study concluded that There was a highly statistically significant improvement in total knowledge, practice, Attitude, and self efficacy after implementation of the educational program. The study concluded that the developed educational program have a significant positive impact on asthma patients’ knowledge, practices, attitude, and self efficacy. The study recommended that replication of the study using a large probability sample from different geographical areas to allow greater generalizability of the results. Further programs with continuous follow up for patients with bronchial asthma should be applied in all health care centers to help them to improve their self care behaviors and self efficacy.
