Abstract

The present study was carried out at Inshas Poultry Breeding Research Station, Animal Production Research Institute, Agriculture Research Center, Ministry of Agriculture, Giza, Egypt. The experimental design of this work was planned to study the effect of grape seed extract (GSE) as feed additives on the productive and reproductive performances of Matrouh and Inshas hens as a local strain for meat and egg production. A 2x4 factorial arrangement design was used in this experiment including two strains(Inshas and Matrouh) and four levels of dietary GSE supplementation (0, 600, 1200, and 1800 mg/ kg diet). Average live body weight (BW) of layers was insignificantly effect except at 60 and 64 weeks of age of Inshas strain was significantly increased compared with Matrouh. The heavier BW during all the experimental periods were recorded by Inshas hens fed on diet containing GSE at level of 1200 mg/ kg. Feed intake (FI) were insignificantly different between two a local strains, GSE levels and their interactions on FI at different periods. The best FCR during all the experimental periods were recorded by Inshas hens fed on diet containing 1200 mg GSE / kg diet. Egg weight was significantly increased of Inshas strain than the Matrouh at all period studies. The higher average of egg weight was recorded by Inshas hens fed on diet containing 1200 GSE mg/kg diet. Most of egg quality traits studied was not significantly affected by either strain. Most of semen quality had insignificantly different between two a local strains. GSE supplementation levels shows significantly improved of semen quality. Semen quality of Inshas strain supplementation of GSE at level 1800 mg/ kg diet was mproved. The highest fertility values recorded in GSE treatment at 1800 mg/ kg diet. The highest values recorded in Inshas and Matrouh strains treated with supplementation of GSE at level 1200 mg/ kg diet. The high value of hatchability of total egg set were recorded by Matrouh hens fed on diet containing GSE at level of 1200 mg/ kg. Testosterone was significantly increased in Inshas as compared with Matrouh strains. GSE supplementation levels significantly increased of TAOC, SOD, GPX and Testosterone values when compared with control group. The highest values of TAOC, SOD, GPX and Testosterone recorded of Inshas strain supplementation of 1200 mg GSE / kg diet. Inshas recorded the best relative economical efficiency percentage than the Matrouh strain and those supplemented with 1200 GSE mg / kg diet attained the higher relative economical efficiency value. The higher average relative economical efficiency value recorded of Inshas strain supplementation of 1200 GSE mg/kg diet. In conclusion, results obtained suggested that GSE levels it could be feed to laying hens at a level up to 1200 mg/kg diet in poultry diets without unfavorable effects on live BW, daily FI, FCR, egg production, egg quality. Feeding supplementation of GSE at level 1200 mg/ kg diet improved egg weight and recorded higher fertility and hatchability percentage by hens and best economical efficiency. However, Inshas strain recorded the best results as compared with Matrouh strain response to levels of grape seed extract.
