Effect of Cough Assistive Device on Period of Mechanical Ventilator for Children with Pneumonia

Abstract
Objectives :the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cough assist device on period of mechanical ventilator for children with pneumonia. Methods :This study conducted on thirty children of both sexes on mechanical ventilator with pneumonia and hypotonia, their ages ranged from 6 months to 3 years. They were selected from pediatric ICU in abo el-reesh hospital Cairo university ,It was conducted from November 2019 to October 2020,The children were classified randomly into two groups of equal number. group A (control group) received traditional physiotherapy, while group B (study) received the same traditional physiotherapy received by group A in addition to use of cough assist device. Results: the result of this study revealed significant improvement in percentage of PaO2, decreased PaCO2, and improving in ph ,hco3 and x- ray score and significant decrease in the period of mechanical ventilator and significant decrease the number of sessions atthe study group. Conclusion : cough assist device speed up the weaning process by decreasing the period of mechanical ventilator and decreasing the number of sessions so it can decrease the length of stay at ICU
