Abstract Background: This study is to evaluate the stability of fracture segments after treatment of mandibular angle fracture with 3D strut plate and comparison of the two group’s one with IMMF and another without IMMF. Materials and Methods: Sixteen patients with mandibular angle with or without other fractures indicated for Open reduction internal fixation in the mandible. They were divided randomly into two groups: group (1): included 8 patients who were treated by 3D strut plate without IMMF. group (2): included 8 patients who were treated by 3D strut plate with IMMF Results: This is a randomized clinical trial including 16 patients with mandibular angle fracture. They were classified into two equal groups; group (1) included 8 patients who were treated by 3D strut plate without IMMF and group (2) included 8 patients who were treated by 3D strut plate with IMMF. The patients in both groups were age and sex matched, p value was statistically insignificant (P >0.05) between the two groups. Conclusion: Considering the results of our study, it is concluded that 3D strut plate for fixation of fractured mandibular angle has relatively less or no post-operative complications compared with other techniques. Also, they provide adequate stability and resist the torsional forces in mandibular angle fractures especially reduction with IMMF. In addition, there exists an added advantage of minimal manipulation and adaptation that may hasten overall operating time. The simplicity, ease of application, shortened procedural times, and reduced risk of infection is the primary advantages of the 3D strut plate over the superior border technique |
