Abstract Background: Domestic accidents remain the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children worldwide; much of this increase occurs in developing countries that could be prevented through increased awareness and improvements in home environment.Aim: Assess the risk factors for domestic accidents among rural children at Alqalioubiya Governorate-Egypt. A descriptive research design was utilized. Sample: A simple random sample of 225 homes having children less than 5 years old. Setting: The study was conducted in homes of Bakira Village. It is a rural area in the middle north of Alqalioubiya governorate.Tools; First tool: Part (A) - Demographic characteristics for parents and their children. Part (B)- History of domestic accidents occurance among children. The second tool: Home observation for measurement of environmental risk factors checklist. Results: The current study reveals that, 44.4% of mothers were having secondary education.The occurrence of domestic accidents among children was 69.3%.There was highly statistical difference between occurrences of domestic accident among children and working of mother .The study concluded that, 48.9 % were having high risk factor in kitchen. While 68.4% were moderate risk factors within bathrooms, only 2.2 % of them mothers called ambulance when accident occurred |
