Abstract Aim: Sporadic studies assessed Laser therapy in management of oral lesions of Behcet{u2019}s disease. The current trial is the first RCT to assess and compare Diode Laser therapy to topical Corticosteroid in management of oral lesions of Behcet{u2019}s disease.Methodology: The total sample size comprised fifty patients diagnosed with Behcet{u2019}s disease as defined by the revised ICBD and suffering from oral ulcers. The patients were allocated equally into two groups: topical Corticosteroid and Diode laser groups. Outcome measures included oral ulcer activity index was measured by Composite index, pain associated with of oral ulcers using VAS, number and healing time of oral ulcers and oral health-related quality of life using OHIP- 14.The collected data were analyzed statistically without exclusion. Results: Pain and functional limitation disappeared by the end of the first week in Laser group, but few patients reported mild pain and functional limitation in Corticosteroid group at the end of the first week. In Laser, the improvement of pain during the first twenty-four hours was well spotted even some participants reported immediate pain relief directly after the session. Statistical analysis detected significant difference at the first and third days favoring the Diode Laser group. The main improvement of the oral ulcer activity index was during the first week and complete healing was reported by the end of the second week for both groups. On statistical analysis, we found significant difference at the first and third days favoring the Diode Laser group |
