Abstract

Aim: Comparing the retention of upper complete denture manufactured using two different denture base materials, the first following conventional methods while the second is fabricated using rapid prototyping method. Methodology: Nineteen patients were selected following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The first denture was a conventional complete denture while the second denture was a complete denture made by Rapid prototyping method. For both groups, a preliminary impression was made & after pouring the primary impression, self-cured acrylic resin trial denture bases with a wax rim were constructed on the primary casts for the upper & lower arches for a jaw relation record. A facebow record was used to mount the upper cast, while the lower cast was mounted using a centric relation record. Setting of artificial teeth was performed, then the denture was tried in patient`s mouth. Functional impression was taken during the try in stage. For the first denture, the functional impression was poured in normal way to obtain the master cast, then processing was done in normal way and the denture was finished and polished, but for the second denture CBCT scanning of the try in with the functional impression was done to obtain STL file then denture manufacturing was done by 3D printing. conventional complete denture was delivered at the end of the study. Results: Three-Dimensional printing showed statistically significantly lower median retention value than control group (P-value = 0.002, Effect size = 1.881)
