Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to study the flexural behavior of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) continuous beams before and after strengthening. Steel plates and CFRB laminates were used as strengthening techniques. An experimental investigation was done using eight reinforced concrete beams which made of recycled aggregate and have the same dimensions, but with differences in the preloading levels and type of strengthening. Beams were divided into two control beams and two groups. The first beam was the reference beam which made of normal concrete (NC), the second control beam was made of RAC. And the first group included three beams strengthened using CFRP laminates as external strengthening. The second group included three beams also, but strengthened by steel plates. The two groups were strengthened firstly by curing and cracks filled by using two types of Epoxy. In this study, comparison between each type of strengthening was done , also the cost comparison have been occurred, and the optimum type to be used in accordance with parameters of cost and gained load-carrying capacity of the tested beams. The results show improvement in load-carrying capacity by 146% and 197% for CFRP and steel plate techniques respectively, and also show deflection decreasing by up to 82% and 87% for CFRP and steel plate’s technique respectively
