Abstract

Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the marginal adaptation, marginal staining, and post-Operative sensitivity of resin composite restorations after disinfection of cavities with Nanocare Gold and chlorhexidine in class II cavities immediately and after 6 month and 1 year using FDI criteria for assessment of dental restorations. Methodology: 19 patients were involved in this study, with 3 carious class II teeth in each one and the total number was 57 teeth. The study was divided into three parallel groups according to the disinfection protocols. Two intervention groups one for Nanocare Gold, the second for Chlorhexidine and the third was the control. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests were used to assess data normality. The significance level was set at P{u2264} 0.05. For demographic data, Chi-square test was used for intergroup comparisons of qualitative data, and independent Student-t test was used for quantitative data. Chi-square was conducted to compare distribution of FDI scores between different surface pre-treatments at each evaluation time.McNemar{u2019}s test was performed used to compare FDI scores between different evaluation times within each surface pretreatment. Results: There was no significant difference in age, gender, arch and tooth type distribution among study groups. Regarding marginal adaptation, marginal staining and post-operative sensitivity, there was no statistically significant difference in distribution of FDI scores between surface pre-treatment groups at each evaluation time. Conclusions: As long as restorations are inserted under rubber dam isolation, proper application steps, proper filling, marginal adaptation and adequate finishing and polishing, the performance of the restorations would be satisfactory up to 1 year without any surface disinfection
