Study title: ”The extent of children’s dependence on the Internet and its relationship to the formation of their cognitive and value systems”.

Degree: Doctorate of Philosophy degree in educational media, Department of Educational Media, Faculty of Specific Education, Ain-Shams University.
The study aimed to measure the extent of children’s dependence on the Internet, and to explain the relationship between children’s dependence on websites, their knowledge and values, and the formation of children’s values system. It relied on the theory of media dependence.
The researcher used the sample survey method. The analytical study sample was identified from the specialized websites and pages for children and included official websites and pages, which represent the electronic pages of children’s magazines and television channels. The sample of the field study was selected a deliberate sample and its strength (400) individual children in the preparatory and secondary stages, The questionnaire included study scales for dependence on Internet sites, exposure intensity scale, trend towards knowledge and information, values scale and values system.
The results of the analytical study reached several results, the most important of which is that the social values were the most values that Included in websites and electronic pages with a percent of (27.8%) of the total values in websites and pages, then the moral values around (26.1%), followed by the political values with a lower percentage of (13.4%), the religious values in about (11.9%), the economic values included (7.5%), the theoretical values (6.9%), and finally the Aesthetic values got a percentage of (6.4%) of the total values in websites and pages.
The results showed the superiority of “Noor website magazine”, which is affiliated with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, at the level of social, moral and political values. It also showed the superiority of the pages of children’s channels “Toyour El-Gannah channel, Cartoon network channel and El-Majd kids channel at the level of economic, religious, theoretical and aesthetic values.
The results of the field study on the Child Value Scale showed that the ranking of children’s trends towards values is as follows: The moral values were ranked first, followed by the theoretical values in second, the economic values in third, the aesthetic values in fourth, the religious values in fifth, then the social values, however; the political values were founded at the last.
The most important results of the study’s hypothesis tests revealed:
• The validity of the assumption that there is a statistically significant correlation between children’s reliance on websites and each of the following variables: their interaction with it, the trend towards information and knowledge provided online.
• Also significant correlation between children’s values system and the trends towards information and knowledge provided online was found.
• While; it was found that the hypothesis that there was a correlation between children’s dependence on websites and their values system was incorrect.
• Also found there is no significant statistical differences in children’s value ratios due to demographic factors: gender, age, socio-economic level and type of education
