Abstract Objectives: To derive Family Nutrition and Physical Activity screening tool (FNPA) and socioeconomic scores (SES) for patients with exogenous obesity attending the Obesity Clinic in The Children{u2019}s Hospital, Cairo University and to assess the relationship between both SES & parenting behavior and the development of obesity in these children. Study design:The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 120 children with exogenous obesity (aged from 2 to 13 years old) over a period of 6 months from August 2018 to February 2019. Inclusion criteria: Age > 2 years, BMI SD > 2. Exclusion criteria: Any child suspected to have a pathological cause of obesity, age < 2 years old or a BMI SD < 2. Paternal and maternal BMI SDs were calculated and the children and parents were subjected to an interview using 1.FNPA screening tool 2. updated and validated Fahmy & El-sherbini socioeconomic status scale. A detailed clinical history was taken as well as clinical examination, body measurements and laboratory investigations (lipid profile and Oral Glucose Tolerance Test). Results: BMI SDS in the children positively correlated with mothers{u2019} BMI (r =0.216, p =0.02). On the other hand, the BMI SDS negatively correlated with weaning time (r =-0.219, p =0.018) and beverage choices (r =-0.223, p =0.016). A large number of the study cases always eat while watching TV (62.5%) while 63.3% of them almost never or only sometimes eat fruits and vegetables. The vast majority of the patients almost never or only sometimes have sweets monitoring (85%). In addition, 78.3% of them almost always had candy as a reward for good behavior.
