Abstract

Akhmim area is located east to the River Nile in Sohag Governorate and its history dates back to approximately sixth thousand years. Groundwater has a special significance in the study area as it is used mainly in agricultural, industrial, and domestic activities. Therefore, field studies, in addition to Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems techniques are integrated to study the impacts of anthropogenic activities on the deterioration of groundwater and archaeological sites in Akhmim area. Based on field studies and satellite imagery analysis, the results showed the existence of several human activities that affect the quality of groundwater and archaeological sites in Akhmim. The results of the physicochemical analysis of groundwater samples confirmed the sources of deterioration identified by satellite imagery and field studies
