Abstract

COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) is a rapidly spreading infectious disease that has resulted in a global pandemic. COVID-19 is primarily spread through the inhalation of droplets or fomites, according to epidemiology. The most common signs and symptoms of COVID-19 are high temperatures, fatigue, and dry cough. The incubation period for COVID-19 is thought to extend to 14 days, with a median time of 4-5 days from exposure to symptoms onset.
Healthcare professionals are on the front lines of this pandemic. Since the disease’s emergence, various governments throughout the world have been taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 guidelines and protocols were established by the World Health Organization and implemented by many countries ministries of health. These procedures offer information on preventive measures.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasized that everyone should take precautions to protect themselves and others from the disease, including proper hand hygiene, social distancing, wearing a mask,- covering the nose and mouth when coughing, and sneezing, and isolation and decontamination of surfaces. The efficacy of these measures is based on people’s commitment to preventative measures, which is mostly influenced by knowledge, perception, and preventive behavior against COVID-19. Adapting these preventive and control measures requires sufficient knowledge, accurate perception, and positive attitudes. Knowledge acquisition, belief construction, and behavior development are three stages of change that can be used to influence human health behavior. Knowledge can influence a person’s mood and behavior in both direct and indirect ways.
The study aimed to investigate student nurses perception regarding preventive measures for coronavirus infection. The study design was a descriptive design that was used at the central laboratory of maternity and gynecological nursing at the nursing faculty; at Ain shams university.
The purposive sample was utilized, the sample was 127 male and female in the 3rd academic year at maternity and gynecological nursing department in 2021-2022.

part 2: Student nurses’ knowledge about COVID-19 and its preventive measures.
Part3: Barriers that prevent student nurses to comply with preventive measures for coronavirus infection.
Tool 2: Student nurses’ attitudes regarding preventive measures for coronavirus infection.
Results:
 The results showed that 80.3% of the studied sample has correct knowledge regarding COVID-19 and its preventive measures. While 19.7% of them have incorrect knowledge.
 The findings showed that 80.3% of the students face environmental barriers to complying with the preventive measures for COVID-19 infection as a lack of disinfectant and hand washing supplies. 66.9% of the students face organizational barriers such as a lack of training programs about preventive measures and how to use personal protective equipment.
 The results revealed that72.4% of the studied sample have a positive attitude regarding preventive measures for coronavirus infection. While 27.6% of them have a negative attitude.
