Abstract

32 eyes of 19 infants with primary congenital glaucoma were referred from the Health insurance Hospital to Ophthalmology department of Assuit University Hospital from October 2019 to January 2021 10 infants ( 52.6% ) were males and 9 infants ( 47.3% ) were females , the mean age of presentation of the infants was 2.8 months with range between 15 days and 6 months , 13 ( 68.4% ) infants had bilateral primary congenital glaucoma , 6 ( 31.5% ) infants had unilateral primary congenital glaucoma , 15 ( 78.9% ) infants had positive consanguinity between their parents and 4 ( 21.05% ) infants had negative consanguinity between their parents 12 ( 63.1% ) infants had congenital heart disease diagnosed by Echocardiography during the preoperative fitness Mean IOP measured using shiotz tonometer by EUGA was 30.7±10.2 mmHg with range from 23.1mmHg to 50.6mmHg and mean corneal diameter measured horizontally and vertically was 13.1±1.2 mm with range from 11 mm to 15 mmPrimary combined trabeculotomy and trabeculectomy with mitomycin C was done in all the 32 eyes .20 eyes ( 62.5% ) showed successful IOP lowering after the surgery , 9 eyes ( 28.1% ) required postoperative anti glaucoma medications to normalize the IOP and 3 eyes ( 9.3% ) required glaucoma drainage device surgery to normalize the IOP Eyes required anti glaucoma medications or glaucoma drainage device surgery had common features between them as positive consanguinity between parents, early age of presentation , high intial IOP at time of presentation and corneal haziness.
