Abstract This study was conducted in two Egyptian governorates Al-Sharkia, which is located in the northeastern region of Egypt and El-Qaliobia, which is located in the East of the Nile at head of the Delta , it considered third governorate of big Cairo in addition to governorates Cairo and Giza.The study aimed to describe the existing semi-intensive poultry production system, determine the challenges, measured technical and economic indicators, describe of market chain value mapping and give the recommendations for improvement. Samples of 200 individual producers were randomly chosen, through semi-structured interviews with questionnaires, to collect data through monthly visits during the period extended from June 2016 to December 2017. The results indicated that the system identified in the rural poultry production system as semi-intensive poultry production system.This system involves two subsystems according to type of production; semi-intensive egg and broiler production systems. The semi-intensive poultry production system was defined as flocks ranged between 300-3000 birds under the two sub-systems. Males were the only owned of flocks (100%), however all producers were over 30 years of age. The overall mean egg number of the hens raised under the semi-intensive system was approximatly 287.80 egg with average egg weight 59.10 gm |
