Abstract

Several factors are known to affect success of any implant system. These factors may be related to features locally, such as bone quality and quantity. Other factors are related to the surgical method by which an implant is placed, or which are related to the implant system used. The purpose of this study was to evaluate bone and soft tissue mucosa of the jaws using CBCT with radiopaque material to assess their clinical significance versus CT and ridge mapping prior to implant placement. Twenty patients undergoing implant surgeries for edentulous areas (mandible and maxilla) were included in this study. All participants were selected randomly from patients submitted as emergency cases to the outpatient clinics of Cairo University, Faculty of Dentistry and University Hospital of Misr University for Science and Technology. All patients were of both sexes and their ages ranged between 25-50 years with a mean age of 35 years. Ninety-six edentulous sites were chosen from the twenty patients and each site was subjected to three different types of examination namely; ridge mapping examination, CBCT examination with the X-resin stent and CT examination. All measurements were statistically analyzed to reveal the most and accurate tool in assessing soft and bone tissues in comparison to the gold standard modality (CT)
