Abstract

Thoracic ultrasound is a non-invasive and portable imaging tool which is indicated for detection and follow up of peripheral lung lesions. Chest ultrasound ,powered by Doppler study with clinical background, limits the differential diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions as consolidation, collapse and pulmonary nodules or masses. Detection of pleural thickening , irregularity and minimal amounts of pleural effusion can be assessed using ultrasound with significant higher sensitivity and specificity than CT chest. Main advantages are its availability and the rapid, symptom and site-based examination showed a high sensitivity and specificity. However, a disadvantage is that only pleural-involved lesions or peripheral pulmonary lesions visible through a sound window, e.g. effusion or subpleural consolidation, can be reached
