Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) in Egypt is a relatively high young onset disease. As a form of heterogeneous cancer, there is interplay genetic and environmental factors. Aim of work: We aimed at probing the association of life style factors and Microsatellite Instability (MSI) status that could provide more insights on carcinogenic process of CRC. Patients and Methods: One hundred incident sporadic CRC patients were involved in this cross-sectional study. Information on risk factors of CRC was obtained using standardized questionnaire. Microsatellite instability was analyzed using IHC. Results: Mean age was 49.89 years with a range between 19.0 to 86.0 years. More than half of patients were females (56.0%). Eighty four percent of the patients were married, 70% from Metropolitan Cairo Area, 26% from rural areas and 80.0% with negative consanguinity. For educational level (years), 32.0% were illiterate and only 12.0% were university graduate. Most of the patients (64.0%) were housewives or not working
