Abstract

Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) has been increasingly used in the last few decades, with improved success in offering a cure.CNS complications are an important contributor to morbidity & mortality in HSCT patients. Our study illustrates that CNS complications, with a day 100 and a 5-year incidence of 5.3% and 12.5%, respectively, is a significant clinical problem in post- HSCT patients. Nearly 41 % of the post-HSCT CNS complications occurred within 100 days after HSCT. A total of 9 patients (13% of total patients with CNS complications) had a double incidence of CNS imaging detected complications so, close monitoring is required for patients with those complications. The most commonly observed CNS complication in our series was CNS disease recurrence detected in 27/77 incidents (35%), followed by PRES detected in 17/77 incidents (22%). PRES was more common at <30 days post HSCT, while neurotoxicity, hemorrhage, recurrence, atrophy and infection were more common at the >100 days post-HSCT transplant period
