Abstract

Purpose: This study evaluates the vascular density (VD), fractal dimension (FD), choriocapillaris flow and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) before and afteranti-VEGF (Bevacizumab) therapy in patients with macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion (RVO). METHODS: 30 eyes of 30 patients were included (5 eyes with ischemic CRVO, 5 with non-ischemic CRVO, 7 ischemic BRVO and 13 non-ischemic BRVO).The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central macular thickness (CRT) were measured before and one month after the third intravitreal injection. The VD, FD, FAZ and flow area were evaluated with OCTA before and after treatment using 6x6 mm protocol scan. RESULTS: The BCVA and CMT improved significantly as well as the FAZ area increased significantly after treatment in both ischemic and non-ischemic cases. In ischemic group there was a statistically significant decrease in the FD and the superficial and deep capillary VD in the fovea, parafovea and perifovea with no statistically significant change in the choriocapilaris flow.In the non-ischemic group there was a statistically significant increase in the FD, superficial parafoveal and perifoveal VD and choriocapillaris flow with insignificant increase in the DCP VD while the foveal VD showed a statistically significant decrease
