Abstract

The present study was designed to compare the effect of angled versus straight abutmentsin immediately placed & restored implants in the esthetic zone. This study was conducted in the Prosthodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry {u2013} Cairo University where a total of 90 patients were recruited from the outpatient clinics of Prosthodontic, Oral Surgery and Endodontic departments, Cairo University fulfilling the inclusion criteria.This study was designed as a randomized controlled clinical trial with two arm parallel groups with allocation ratio 1:1. CBCT scanning with virtual implant planning were used to develop a computer based surgical guide which was used to place the implant to allow for a straight or angled according to the allocation group. Badly decayed irrestorable teeth in the esthetic zone were extracted atraumatically using periotomes.Immediately after implant insertion, the abutments were adjusted & placed according to the allocation group then a temporary crown was performed using a preformed vacuum stent on a waxed up cast. All crowns had to be out of occlusion in centric and eccentric relation Early implant failure and post-operative (surgical & prosthetic) complications were assessed at 3 & 6 months.The results were tabulated and statistically analyze to reach a conclusion. The results showed that there is no statistically significant difference regarding the failure rate and post-operative complications when comparing angled to straight immediately placed & restored implants. This applies to both anterior and premolar implants. However, high failure rates were observed thus proper case selection is mandatory to avoid combining several risk factors
