Abstract Nowadays, patients{u2019} demands have increased toward esthetics therefore, construction of a highly esthetic restoration is mandatory. Shade selection is the crucial part of esthetic dentistry which requires full understanding of color science and teeth surface characterization. This clinical study was performed in order to evaluate the accuracy of digital photography and spectrophotometer in optimizing shade matching when compared to conventional method of shade selection. A total of nine patients, requiring restorations in the esthetic zone, were included in this study. Each patient received three crowns representing three groups according to the different shade matching method used. group (V3D) as a control group: VITA 3D-master shade guide, group (VE) as the first intervention: VITA Easy shade V spectrophotometer and group (D) as the second Intervention : Digital photography with Adobe Photoshop software. The shade of the contralateral/adjacent tooth was obtained visually with the use of VITA 3D-master shade guide, under three different light conditions to avoid metamerism. This was carried out after the five prosthodontists were examined for color blindness using Ishtar{u2019}s test. Shade was also selected using Vita Easyshade V spectrophotometer. The tooth area was selected from the device, on a natural tooth (adjacent/contralateral) on the middle- middle 1/3 of the labial surface of the tooth for the true hue and block shade. Then, a 3spot mode shade mapping was also measured on the (cervical, middle and incisal thirds). The measurement was accepted when 5 consecutive, identical readings were generated for each area |
