Abstract MWCNTs have recently been used for different purposes in the biomedicine field, such as anti-tumor immune therapy, infection therapy and as a delivery system for the neuro degenerative diseases. However, a great challenge for the clinical use of MWCNTs in the biomedical field is the potential toxicity of CNTs which needs careful assessment. Therefore, this experimental study was taken to investigate the potential adverse effects of MWCNTs on the spleen and brain of mice. In addition, a protective trial against MWCNTs-induced adverse effects was conducted using quer. The used pristine MWCNTs appeared as hollow tubes with diameters and lengths compatible with the data given by the manufacturer as demonstrated in the images of scanning and transmission electron microscopy. In the current study, the experimental protocol involved the use of sixty mature mice divided into six experimental groups 10/each, where the first group received DMSO and acted as a control, the second group received quer (30 mg/Kg) concentration, the third and fourth groups received MWCNTs at low (0.25 mg/Kg), and high (0.50 mg/Kg) concentrations, the fifth group received quer. and a low concentration of MWCNTs, and the last group received quer. and a high concentration of MWCNTs. Then examinations of the experimental groups for the immune-modulatory and neurotoxic effects of MWCNTs, and protection by quer. were proceeded. |
