Abstract

This thesis is directed to provide a hybrid method to find the optimum number and selected locations of high-precision phasor measurement units, termed as microsynchrophasors (μPMUs), to monitor distribution networks of smart grid. This method is based upon the previous various algorithms (Greedy algorithm and graph theory), considering the advantages of each method to get the best results. As it aims to satisfy full network observability with the highest possible observability redundancy index. This method shall be coded using MATLAB software and it is implemented on IEEE various networks as 13-node, 33-node, 34-node, 37-node and 123-node test feeders to check such results, comparing it with other methods, even under the condition of network reconfiguration, taking into consideration the time and number of computations for each network to solve. This method proposes an optimal solution for the various network to be fully observed with the best system observability redundancy index (SORI) value and minimum computation time. The integer programming method can be considered as a reference for the optimal solution, the proposed method reached the same output as the integer programming method considering best SORI value.
