Abstract

Impact of Mentalization Based Therapy Program on Reduction of Borderline Personality Symptoms among Nursing Schools Students
Background: Mental health of nursing students is an important basis for personal and professional development. Specifically, Borderline personality disorder negatively affecting the essential nursing intervention. Mentalization based therapy found to significantly reduce severity of borderline personality disorder and its related symptoms. Aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of mentalization based therapy program on reduction of borderline personality symptoms among nursing schools’ students. Design: Quasi-experimental research design was used in the study. Setting: The present study was carried out at nursing schools at Ismailia city Sample technique : A convenient sample technique was utilized, Subject all nursing students (512) for assessment of borderline symptoms, and 58 student from them detected to had borderline personality traits were included in mentalization based therapy program, Tools of data collection:- semi-structured interview questionnaire was divided into four tools, tool I: demographic characteristics, tool II: Borderline personality questionnaire, tool III: - Mentalization scale, and tool IV Borderline Symptom List (BSL-23). Results: 11.32 % of nursing schools students has borderline personality traits, there was significant statistical negative correlation between the borderline personality symptoms and mentalizing capacity of study subject, there was a statistically significant decline of mean score of all borderline personality symptoms in post and follow-up program implementation stages than preprogram implementation. Also, level of borderline personality symptoms was very high, moderate, and mild in preprogram, post program, and follow-up stage respectively Conclusion: there was statistically significant reduction in mean score of borderline personality symptoms after implementation of mentalization based therapy program compared to pre- program implementation. Recommendations: Improve the awareness of nursing students about available resources for emotional and psychological support and develop mentalization based therapy training program for psychologist in nursing schools.
