المستخلص

The economic role of the state throughout the stages of the development of the global economy has been affected by economic and political changes, especially with regard to intellectual variables and their implications for the practical aspects. Some changes have been related to crises; economic and financial, in market economy or the great global changes in the policy of market economy and the trend towards the globalization of economies and the increase of economic integration.
The limits of state intervention in economic activity are outlined, along with the justifications for state intervention in economic activity to remedy market failure. The distinguishing features of public projects, the determinants of state withdrawal and economic activity restrictions are presented, too. Institutional alternatives for balance among markets and the role of the state activating its supervisory and regulatory role, along with attaining the economic efficiency of the private sector within the framework of the supervisory and regulatory role of the state, are tackled. It is in support of competition and market mechanisms to restore the relationship between the government and the market. The nature of this role is to be consistent with the new market in order to increase efficiency, competition, efficient resource allocation and increased rates of economic welfare.
The state’s role in Egyptian economic activity has gone through several developments since 1952 to date, and this was demonstrated through the state’s intervention strategy in economic activity and institutional reforms. Many developed and developing countries have adopted the new role of the state, which is supervisory and regulatory. It supports competition and market mechanisms, withdrawing from its economic role. Restrictions and procedures governing economic activity are abolished. The experiences of these countries have witnessed an increase in the efficiency of this role by increasing the competitiveness of markets, freedom of entry and exit, and the reduction of monopolistic practices and non-competitive activities.
