Abstract The palaeoenvironments and palaeoecology of the Upper Palaeozoic succession in the eastern foot slopes of the Northern Galala Plateau, west of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt are interpreted, based on a detailed study of stratigraphy, sequence- stratigraphical framework, sedimentary facies, ichnoassemblages, macro- and micro-faunal content, and plant remains. The Upper Carboniferous–Lower Permian siliciclastic dominated Aheimer Formation has been studied in the section exposed in the Wadi Aheimer area. Three unconformities (three Permian sequence boundaries) bound four third-order depositional sequences, including the Upper Carboniferous sequence I, and the Lower Permian sequence II, III and IV, respectively. |
