المستخلص

Recent studies on phonetics have greatly become concerned with spoken discourse as it includes live texts involving sound effects and linguistic connotations. To achieve that, these studies used modern laboratorial audio devices and programs. Therefore, the results of these studies have become more accurate and reliable. Accordingly, the current study on applied phonetics (acoustic phonetics) has attempted to investigate the most accurate sound effects and their role in the semantic orientations of the text in focus. This study has been entitled “Effect of Sounds on the Semantic Orientations of Amal Donkol’s Poetry” .This was illustrated through the recorded voice poems delivered by the poet himself. The study used the Speech Analysis Software (PRAAT) to analyze its data.
The current study consisted of four chapters preceded by an introduction and a preface, and ended up with a conclusion showing the most important results and recommendations. The four chapters came as follows:
Chapter One: (The effect of vowel sounds on the semantic orientations of the texts). This chapter included two sections:
Section (1) :( vowels of Arabic: their types and semantic orientations).
Section (2) :( The Effect of vowels on the semantic orientations of Amal Donkol’s poetry).
Chapter Two: (The effect of consonant sounds on the semantic orientations of the texts). This chapter was divided into two sections:
Section (1) :( Consonants of Arabic: Their features and connotations).
Section (2): (The Effect of consonants on the semantic orientations of Amal Donkol’s poetry).
Chapter Three: (The role of sound effects in the rhythm of Amal Donkol’s poetry ). It included two sections:
Section (1): (The external music).
Section (2): (The internal music).
Chapter Four: (Stress and intonation in Amal Donkol’s Poetry) . This chapter involved two sections:
Section (1): (Stress in Amal Donkol’s Poetry).
Section (2): (Intonation in Amal Donkol’s Poetry).
The current study concluded with showing the most important results in addition to the bibliography.
