Abstract ”Third sector organizations” is a term used to describe the range of organizations that are neither public sector nor private sector. The role of TSOs and the extent they should be involved in their community development are becoming debatable issues (Hassan & Forhad, 2013). Their roles, importance, intervention level and even their activities differ from one country to another mainly based on their laws, legislations and the level of development in the country, whether they are developing or developed countries. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the role of TSOs in sustainable tourism development generally and in Egypt, then exploring if there are any problems or difficulties face them and prevent them from achieving their role. In this research, a qualitative approach is adopted, using semi-structured interviews with managers of Egyptian tourism third sector organizations (ETTSOs). The results shows that the role of these organizations is very limited, although they are trying very hard to have a great positive effect on the community, that’s due to a lot of difficulties limiting them from being a strong actor in the Egyptian society. |
