Abstract The epidemic of the coronavirus and the government’s response to deal with any possible repercussions of the coronavirus have had a significant impact on businesses and commercial relations as worker shortages have occurred. This thesis determines the influence of the coronavirus epidemic on the controlling processes of construction projects in Egypt and the work options strategies. First, the planning and controlling processes and the influence of the coronavirus epidemic crisis on the controlling process on construction projects are discussed. Then, the thesis particularly focuses on the influence of the coronavirus epidemic on the controlling processes of construction projects in Egypt. Besides, assessment of the work option strategies under the coronavirus epidemic crisis. As well, using open questionnaire and the regular closed questionnaire forms based on the data and information collected through the theoretical review and the open questionnaire to conclude and examine some concepts concerning the actual study status. A random sample was chosen in a scientifically systematic way so that this sample represents the research community in a correct representation. First, the questionnaire was tested by a panel of three experts who were asked to review the survey instrument and was distributed to 190 industry construction professionals. In total, 147 construction industry professionals returned the surveys. The survey results were obtained by ranking the significant effects of the coronavirus pandemic crisis on controlling processes on construction projects. The respondents also were asked to assess the work option strategies under the coronavirus epidemic crisis. Then, the analysis of the data was achieved with the help of a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 25.0. In addition, discussing the results of the survey, where respondents indicated the most critical impacts on controlling processes and the work options strategies. Finally, two projects with different costs and specifications were chosen to verify the results obtained from the questionnaires and determine the impact of the coronavirus pandemic crisis on these projects. |
