Abstract

Prenatal ultrasound remains to be the mainstay modality for the assessment of fetal disorders. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered a valuable second line imaging tool for confirmation, completion and correction of complex fetal ultrasonography findings. Fetal MRI has proven its value in pathologies of the central nervous system. Few studies have focused on the value of fetal MRI in abdominal pathologies. With the continuing advances in hardware and software, fetal MRI is progressively valuable in fetal abdominal pathologies. A proper knowledge of the normal fetal abdominal anatomy and signal intensities is essential.
