Abstract

The expression ”many-electron problem” depicts the practical and theoretical trouble of being capable either to calculate or to write out an exact solution for the Schrödinger equation describing a system of electrons interacting with each other. The many-electron problem is one of the most complicated issues of Quantum Mechanics. The trouble comes from the existence of the electron-electron reciprocal influence term, which prevents the separation of the many-electron-system equation into more straightforward one-electron problems. In a system containing two interacting particles, the Schrödinger equation can be separated and can be resolved to get the motions of each particle.Nevertheless, in the case that a third particle is added, one cannot solve the problem analytically. Any of the three particles can encounter a similar resultant force for numerous possible arrangements of the other two and finding an exact solution of the Schrödinger equation is not available generally. The many-body Schrödinger equation is, basically, an eigenvalue equation, the solution of it specifies everything about the electrons in a system.
