Abstract

Over the years, the world has known the significance of dental implants and put a remarkable effort into turning a once complex treatment to what we now consider one of the most important treatment options. Ever since, the dental research showed a distinctive interest in perfecting the implant placement procedure to ensure the utmost success rate. Based on that, proper preoperative planning is now considered a mandatory step which made radiographic imaging a fundamental requirement for a proper implant planning. Accordingly, deciding on the imaging modality should be properly considered and should as well be based on the case complexity. The digital era-we live in- made using computer software the golden standard in implantology. Implantology computer applications help increase success rates, decrease complications, create restoration driven-planning, and allow inexperienced operators to place implants more safely. The digital revolution did not stop at computer aided plans; transferring the plan and designing surgical tools are now easily done as well. In order to precisely transfer the virtual implant plan to the patient{u2019}s mouth, designing virtual surgical guides is now both feasible and indispensable. Computer aided designs (CAD) provide infinite options for the surgeon by designing patient specific guides. The surgical guides could be tooth supported, mucosa supported, or bone supported
