Abstract

Background & Aim: Borderline ovarian tumors (BOT) are a heterogeneous group of non-invasive tumors of uncertain malignant potential with characteristic histology. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinicopathological features, treatment and outcome in a series of patients with borderline ovarian tumors in the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo University. Patients and Methods: Patients with borderline ovarian tumors were identified from institutional databases. Patients were eligible if they had pathologically confirmed borderline ovarian tumors. Information was acquired by retrospective medical record review from 2012 to 2016.Results: A total of 85 BOT patients were included in this study, with a median age of 39 years (range, 15 81 years) and a median follow-up time of 27.5 months. Eleven (12.9%) recurrences and ten (11.8%) deaths were observed in this study group. Univariate analysis showed that there was a significant difference in DFS and OS depends on histopathological subtypes (P=0.01) and presence of invasive implants (P=0.05)
