Abstract

Aim of the study: To assess the ability of silver nanoparticles versus calcium hydroxide used as intra- canal medication in reducing pain and level of endotoxins in necrotic teeth with apical periodontitis. General interest of the study: To decrease postoperative pain following root canal treatment. The following study included 34 participants who were divided into two groups of 17 patients each, control group where calcium hydroxide intra-canal medication was used and experimental group where silver nanoparticles intra-canal medication was used. The incidence and intensity of preoperative, and post-operative pain, as primary outcome, in the experimental and control group was rated by the patient and interpreted from numerical rating scale (NRS) at the predetermined postoperative periods 4, 12, 24, 48 hours following intra-canal medication. Quantification of endotoxins, as the secondary outcome was done using a quantitative Sandwich- ELISA method used to measure the amount of endotoxins at the predetermined periods after access, after mechanical preparation and after seven days intra-canal medication. 80
