Abstract

This study was conducted to compare postoperative hypersensitivity in new bioactive dentine substitute (Biodentine) verses Glass Ionomer cement in treatment of very deep carious lesions. A total of 120 teeth of patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected to participate in the study. Then they were divided into two main groups (A1 receiving Fuji IX) and (A2 receiving Biodentine). Teeth with deep caries undergone caries removal with hand or rotary instrument after rubber dame isolation and the tested base materials were placed in the base of the cavity then composite were placed over as a final restoration. Postoperative hypersensitivity (using thermal test and percussion test) and periapicalpathosis (using digital periapical radiograph) were tested in this period at the baseline (T0), after one week (T1), after three months (T3) and after six months (T6). After follow up period only 98 teeth were statistically analyzed using (SPSS) version. 20. Results showed that both materials have the same effect postoperatively on the pulpal tissues confirmed with thermal, percussion tests and with digital radiograph. -Under the limitations of this study we concluded that: 1-Fuji IX and biodentine is considered clinically effective base material in treatment of deep carious lesions.2-Both materials are capable of maintaining pulp vitality in teeth with deep carious lesions
