Abstract

In this study, macromorphological and micromorphological study were done on the leaves and the fruits of the four cultivars of mangifera indica L. grown in Egypt, alphonso, Ewase, Hindi and Siddika and the similaries and differences between the cultivars were detected. Also genetic profiling (DNA) was done using RAPD technique. It was found that the highest genetic similarity (63.6%) was between the accessions: Hindi and Siddika, while the lowest genetic similarity (46.7%) was detected between Ewase and Alphonso. The results of preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of volatile oils, carbohydrates, glycosides, sterols, triterpenes, flavonoids, coumarins, tannins and saponins and the absence of anthraquinones, alkaloids and cardiac glycosides in mangifera indica L. cultivars under investigation. The essential oil of the four cultivars of mangifera indica L. were analyzed using hydro-distillation by using a clevenger-type apparatus. The major constituents of the leaves volatile oils of cv. Hindi, siddika and alphonso were found to be m-Cymen-8-ol, Ü-fenchene and iso-Longifolene (34.4%) respectively, while those of the fruits peels of cvs. Ewase and Siddika were found to be isobornyl isobutanoate and Ü-Thujene respectively
