Abstract
The EU enlargement policy is mainly launched to pursue and extend the European influence in eastern Europe and to maintain Europe’s security and stability; however, the policy represents a threat to the EU integration. The EU supposed to cease this policy and focus on trying to overcome the emerged challenges in this regard to maintain the integrity of the EU, especially with the rise of the notion of nationalism and the Brexit. However the EU proceeds to include the western Balkans! In this context, this study will address the determinants affecting the EU enlargement policy towards the western Balkans and the impact of this policy on the EU integration, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities facing the EU towards the western Balkans accession
