Abstract The EU enlargement policy is mainly launched to pursue and extend the European influence in eastern Europe and to maintain Europe’s security and stability; however, the policy represents a threat to the EU integration. The EU supposed to cease this policy and focus on trying to overcome the emerged challenges in this regard to maintain the integrity of the EU, especially with the rise of the notion of nationalism and the Brexit. However the EU proceeds to include the western Balkans!
