Abstract Background: A supervisor may have the authority to hire and fire employees. If responsibilities are assigned and authority is not given commensurate to the responsibility, role confusion occurs for all involved individuals. Aim:The current study was carried out to compare the actual authority of the nursing supervisors with their expected authority. Design: A descriptive comparative design was utilized to achieve the aim of the current study. Setting: The current study was conducted at five randomly selected hospitals located at the Elbehera Governorate, Egypt.Subjects:A total number of 137 nursing supervisors working at the selected hospitals were selected in the current study.Tools: The data were collected by the Nursing Supervisor Decision Making Authority Questionnaire which developed by the investigator. Results:There was statistically percentage difference between nursing supervisors’ actual and expected authority in all dimensions. Additionally, there were statistically significance differences between the nursing supervisors’ actual and expected authority regarding to almost all of their demographic data |
