Abstract Nutrition is an important element of health in the older population and affects the aging process. Elderly diabetic patients are a population at risk for malnutrition, especially in nursing homes and hospitalized patients. They suffer more frequently macro vascular complications of diabetes like cerebrovascular disease and coronary heart disease, as well as other geriatric syndromes like dementia, depression, frailty, and falls. These situations can lead to malnutrition and the need for nutritional support. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the nutritional education program for elderly diabetic women in different socioeconomically levels. A sample was consisting of 100 elderly diabetic women from two different places of socioeconomically levels (elderly homes). Anthropometric measurements, Clinical parameters and dietary intake were examined. A nutritional education program was implemented and implemented on diabetic elderly women in nursing homes. The results of the study indicated that many of them suffer from malnutrition and lack of nutrients intake because of their low nutritional awareness which was 70.8% before the nutritional education program, and after the nutritional education program it became 92.3%. Also, blood sugar percent in type 2 diabetic elderly women can be improved with nutrition education program. Therefore, the study recommends the necessity of the concerted efforts of the concerned authorities in providing specialized centers for nutritional advice in health centers and units throughout the Republic |
