Abstract

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by abnormal gas exchange due to altered structure of the interstitial region of the lung. Diagnostic evaluations that may be required include bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), high- resolution CT (HRCT), infant pulmonary function testing (IPFTs), genetic testing, and ultimately a lung biopsy if less invasive testing is not diagnostic. The pathogenesis of many forms of ILD remains poorly understood and treatment approaches remain largely empirical. end-stage lung disease. we studied 26 patients (13 females and 13 males) as well as 25 age and sex matched healthy controls. HRQL of study group was assessed by the use of the PEDSQLTM questionnaire for cases and controls. Our findings revealed that there was a significant lower HRQL in children with ILDS as compared to healthy children in physical, psychological, social and school functioning domains. School functioning domain was the most affected domain in cases especially in age group 13:18 years. Results of the present study may be useful for physicians and researchers to address the needs of patients with ILDS
