Abstract Obesity is an extraordinarily common medical condition (Flegal et al., 2010), and competes with smoking as the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among adults in the United States (US) (Jia et al., 2010). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most frequent chronic autoimmune inflammatory disorder, with a worldwide prevalence around 1%. RA severity is related to joint destruction that is responsible for joint functional disability In rheumatoid arthritis patients (Dénarié et al., 2014). Proliferation of synovial lining cells and infiltration of inflammatory cells, including monocytes and activated leukocytes, into the joint tissues results in formation of pannus tissue that covers the surfaces of articular cartilage and bone and produces pro-inflammatory factors that lead to destruction of cartilage and bone matrix (Karmakar et al., 2010). The serum/synovial fluid ratios of leptin levels were associated with disease duration and erosion .In addition, several in vitro studies sustained the pathogenic role of leptin in RA (Annalisa et al., 2014) |
