Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignancy of the liver . To ensure the optimal treatment strategy for each patient, staging of hepatocellular carcinoma is mandatory. The prognosis of HCC depend on the tumor burden in addition to patient{u2019}s underlying liver disease and liver functional reserve, both of which affects survival and treatment selection. Because HCC frequently invades vessels and metastasizes to other parts of the liver and body, aggressive treatment of early-stage HCC improves long-term survival . Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a common complication of HCC and it is one of the principal factors influencing the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma as it is linked to an increased risk of intrahepatic and systemic metastases, then progressive deterioration of liver function and shorter survival
