Abstract

Stem cell marker as a factor for the different Odontogenic lesions are common pathological entities in the head and neck region. The mechanisms involved in their aggressive behavior are mostly unknown. This may be attributed to the presence of stem cells. SOX2 is a stem cell marker required for the maintenance of pluripotency and self renewal of stem cells. The study was done on 45 archived histopathologically confirmed cases of (15 ameloblastomas, 15 Odontogenic keratocysts, and 15 radicular cysts). The IHC expression of SOX2 in the retrieved sections was investigated. SOX 2 is a reliable marker for identifying the stem cell population in odontogenic lesions. Targeted therapies may be designed against these cancer stem cell populations to render more effective treatment, prevent recurrence, and reduce the morbidity of the patients.
