Abstract

Purpose: to correlate serum amyloid A level with MSUS score and clinical disease activity indices in RA patients.
Materials and methods All patients were subjected to history taking and clinical examination. DAS-28, SDAI, and CDAI were assessed. Laboratory investigations, including CBC, ESR, CRP, RF, anti-CCP, random blood sugar, and serum amyloid A were done to all participants. Musculoskeletal ultrasound for RA patients according to the 12-joint PDUS score was doneResults: There was significant increase in the SAA level in RA patients compared to the control group. There were significant correlations between SAA level, DAS-28, SDAI and CDAI. SAA and PDUS showed significant increase in low-active cases compared with patients in remission. The highest sensitivity and specificity for discrimination between active RA and remission status were attributed to combining SAA, PDUS, and CRP.Conclusions SAA may play an important pathogenic role in RA. SAA can be used for assessment of disease activity in RA.
