Abstract

This study was carried out to compare the clinical performance and success rate of platelet rich fibrin (PRF) and autogenous bone graft in osteotome mediated sinus floor elevation with simultaneous implant placement in patients with residual bone height 5- 10 mm Eleven patients (7 females and 4 males with a mean age of 45 years) were participated in this randomized clinical trial, where every one of the twenty two edentulous sites receives one implant and where divided into two groups. The first group (group A) comprised eleven sites who received PRF as a grafting material with osteotome mediated sinus lifting with simultaneous implant placement while (group B) comprised eleven sites who received osteotome mediated sinus lifting with simultaneous implant placement with autogenous bone as a grafting material. The patients were evaluated at 6 and 12 month intervals. Clinical criteria were survival rate, implant stability (mobility of the implant using Periotest values), pain values (using VAS Scale), bleeding index, probing depth and gingival index. Radiographic evaluation was performed using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to evaluate the amount of sinus elevation and bone density at intervals 6 and 12 months after implant placement. In the present study, the results revealed an overall survival rate of 100% for both groups. Results showed no statistically significant difference between both groups concerning implant stability values, amount of sinus elevation and bone density, however the only statistically significant difference was related to the pain values where PRF showed lower mean values of pain in comparison to autogenous bone
