Abstract

The main aims of this study are first to propose using a statistical method, rather than the traditional one of eigenvector method, to derive priority weights for group AHP problems, also the study proposes new method based on data envelopment Analysis technique for determining relative importance weights for the group members. Finally; group AHP, with these proposed methodologies, has been applied for prioritizing energy resources to help decision makers designing suitable polices for the future of energy sector in Egypt. In the Application model, ten criteria have been used in this study to judge seven energy resources alternatives which include coal, oil, natural gas, photovoltaic solar energy (PV), concentrated solar power (CSP), wind energy, and nuclear energy. Five judges have participated in the assessment process, and results of group AHP model showed that the adopted statistical method produces as close priority weights as EVM, in addition to the statistical advantages that it provides for making deeper analysis about the estimated weights. Regarding the application model, results showed that renewable energy resources are on the top ranking positions, where PV solar energy has the highest priority weights, followed by wind energy and CSP energy; while fossil fuels comes at the bottom of the ranking positions
