Abstract

A simple, fast and accurate spectrophotometric methods for determination of lead(II), chromium (III) and carium(II) ions, involved spectrophotometric determination of Pb (II) via reactions with cresyl fast violet (CFV), erythrosine (ES) and thoron (THO) reagents and Cr(III) and Ba(II) with THO reagent. The absorption spectra of Pb(II) with CFV, ES and THO reagents were measured at n=760, 561 and 539 nm, respectively. While, the absorption spectra of Cr(III) and Ba(II) with THO were measured at n=540 and n=538 nm, respectively. Beer’s law was valid in concentration ranges between 1-45, 1-60 and 1-35 og mL-1 of Pb(II) using CFV, ES and THO reagents, respectively, and 1-70, 1-45 og mL-1 of Cr(III) and Ba(II) using THO, respectively. The optimum conditions for these reactions were studied carefully. The methods had been successfully applied to determine Pb(II), Cr(III) and Ba(II) in pure and spiked water samples and the results obtained were in a good agreement with results obtained by the official one as indicated by the percent recovery values. Elucidation of the chemical structure of the formed complexes via IR and mass spectra was carried out
